Dr Nick Gordon begins by exploring how Smart used geometry in his art, from the games he played with the golden ratio, to his mastery of linear perspective and his subversion of the rules of composition. The playfulness of this formal analysis reveals streams from his diverse influences, including Renaissance masters to the giants of modernism.
THE LECTURER
​
Dr Nick Gordon holds a University Medal and PhD in history from the University of Sydney. As a university lecturer and has taught European history, the history of political thought, and architectural history. Nick is also an artist and brings deep knowledge of materials, techniques, and the insights of the "artist's eye" to the analyses of art in his lectures.
